As we know it, our preferred German automaker BMW has made an M performance model for nearly every vehicle in the lineup. Customers in the Anchorage, AK area and beyond love having M options like the BMW X6 M sports coupe, but there's one particular vehicle that has yet to carry the M name.
That vehicle is the BMW 7 Series flagship sedan. However, M engineering head Albert Biermann explained that the BMW 7 Series might not be M-less forever.
As a quick refresher: M-badged vehicles carry modified engines for more ponies, as well as modified suspensions, transmissions aerodynamics and aesthetics all around.
There's no timestamp on when this will occur (or even if--this is just a wish Biermann expressed), but Biermann told Autocar that "the money is just there to pick up."1
However, don't expect it to pack a 540-horsepower, twin-turbo V-8 like the BMW ALPINA B7. No word yet on what it will be, but you know if we hear this topic develop, we'll cue you in here on the blog.
If, hypothetically, this were to occur, the vehicle would likely compete with the Audi S8, Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, and the Jaguar XJR.
In the meantime, we invite you to BMW of Anchorage where we also carry M-badged vehicles such as the BMW M5 and BMW M6. If you'd like a closer look at what else we carry in the lineup, just stop in during regular business hours, and we will be happy to serve you!
