Every year at the LA Auto Show, automakers from all over the world compete in something that's called the LA Design Challenge and it always leaves us with our jaws on the floor. Pushing each brand to create a concept based on a theme - different each year - the results always keep us on our toes with forward-thinking ideas that could revolutionize the industry if ever put into production and integrated into society. This year's challenge looks to be the coolest of all.
The theme is called "Biomimicry and Mobility: 2025" and it's essentially a prediction of future travel using nature as inspiration. From concepts taking ideas from animals to those used to explore parts of the earth previously visited rarely, we love each and every entry. However, bias aside, we feel that BMW's entry is perhaps the most practical to the way Californians get around the city of Los Angeles.
With a slightly misleading name, the L.A. Subways concept made by BMW Group DesignworksUSA, USA, is set to get commuters to their destination while avoiding the crowded and congested roadways by instead taking to the water. Inspired by schools of fish and their natural shape, the concept is a commuting alternative that travels in packs through the L.A. waterways. Take a look at some pictures of the idea right here.
We'll find out the winner on November 21st, so keep tuned in to our blog for all details as they come.
