Never one to settle, it seems to us at BMW of Anchorage that our esteemed German automaker is once again testing the limits of the vehicular universe. And this time, it's doing so with the spanking-new 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e, its very first plug-in hybrid SUV.

Wondering what went into the creation of the crossover? Then pair up with Cars.com critic, Kelsey Mays, in the clip below. His assessment of the X5 xDrive40e is as follows:

In many ways, the engine of the X5 xDrive40e is alone worth the price of admission. Teaming a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a built-in electric motor and battery pack, the SUV serves up a staggering 308 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain, in turn, pairs with a specialized eight-speed automatic transmission.

The stat that's bound to get folks really buzzing, however, is -- you guessed it -- its fuel economy figures. Rated at a remarkable 56 MPGe combined, it's clear that this SUV is one smart cookie.
